 Brendan didn't learn to walk when he was little-- he started out running. His first pair of shoes were Running Shoes, and he wore them out faster than his mother could replace them.

That more or less sums up his entire life-- run, don't walk. Brendan's always full of energy, and he's quite loud to boot, effectively drawing attention to himself wherever he goes. He's not rude, but his enthusiasm could be a little much for some people, and so when he started his Pokémon journey his mother was glad she wouldn't have to chase him around as much anymore.

As can be expected, he blazed his way through Hoenn gyms the same way he did the Routes, picking up only Pokemon that would be able to keep up with him. It was when he finally got to Mauville, however, that his way of travel would change significantly. There he finally got his very first bike.

He fell in love with bicycles almost instantly. He spent much longer in Mauville than any other city, going back and forth on the cycling road until he was the renowned Champion of Mach bikes, and practiced endlessly on his Acro bike until he could do every trick in the book. He switched bikes so many times that Rydel didn't even have to ask him what he wanted when he came through the door.

But when he finally remembered the need to move on, he knew he would have to choose only one bike to take with him on the road. He looked so forlorn and lost in the shop that Rydel took pity on him and offered to let him have both at one time! (After all, that would be some kind of advertising-- a crazy kid with two bikes!)

That was the most beautiful day of Brendan's entire life.

So beautiful it even (well, in his mind) overshadowed his triumph in both the Pokémon League and the defeat of Team Aqua and Team Magma, both of which he later went on to do.
